Stricken at Nightfall

I thought this picture turned out kind of cool. I took it while laying on the ground, looking up at the prop as the sun was setting behind it.

Halloween on November 1st

I decided to leave my display up for one more night since the rain prevented me from getting any good pictures on Halloween night. So, we had Halloween again tonight. I even had a few people stop by and get out to look at all of it. The pictures I got tonight were much, much better, and I'll post some more soon!
This is what a prop looks like after being left out in about 2-3 inches of rain overnight by the way... not too bad, some of them had some minimal damage, nothing a little paint won't fix. I don't use any sealer or anything, and was surprised at how well they held up.

Strife Pics

Here are a few more pictures of my new Strife prop. I re-used the head and hands from the first groundbreaker corpse I ever attempted to build, which didn't turn out so hot. Actually, they are from this guy. The rest of it is made from a skeleton made from rolled up newspaper, which was covered in paper mache'. Most of the branches I used are from Mountain Laurel, which I have a ton of growing in the woods behind my house. I'm looking forward to building a few more of these this year to line each side of my driveway. Should be a pretty spooky walk for the kids to get their treats this year...

Sun Doesn't Rise Video

I can't believe that for as long as I have liked the band, Mushroomhead, I have never seen this video. YouTube won't let me embed the code here so you will have to follow the link at the bottom. It may not be your kind of music, but if you like scarecrows, crows, and pumpkins, I think you'll like this video. It has a pretty cool looking scarecrow that is tormented by crows, and a little girl who carves a new head out of a pumpkin and puts it on the scarecrow. Best music video I've seen in a while.

Strife Preview

Putting the finishing touches on my new prop, "Strife". Couldn't wait to post a picture, so here is a little preview.

Scarecrow's Sign

I also re-worded the sign that my scarecrow holds the other day. I confused some people, because I had my original "Beware of Bumps in the Night" sign up for a few days then chaged it to this. People were asking "Didn't that say something else the other day?". It felt good that they were paying that much attention. I am planning on putting a light in the head and adding a little "Up-lighting" today (I should probably be doing that now instead of being in here on the computer).

Seasons Greetings

The Halloween season that is...

I'm trying to decide if it should hold the sign that it held last year. I was going to change the wording from "Beware of Bumps in the Night" to something like "Welcome to Grim Hollow". I think I kind of like it without the sign, what do you think? A picture of it with the sign can be seen here.

Same House, Different Year

Found this picture of the same house from a different source. This year had a Pumpkinrot style scarecrow. I don't know the name of this haunt, if I find out I'll post it.

Love this haunt.

Update: This is the ScareFX Yard Haunt. I was happy to find out that this haunt is located about 2 hours away from where I live. Visit the ScareFX website for more great pictures, how-to's and other great stuff.

Updated Props

Wanted to post a couple of pictures of some updates I made to a couple of props. I re-painted and made a new head for my scarecrow, I'm still not 100% happy with the head or the positioning of it, I'll probably work on that a little more later. I also want to put a light inside the head sometime soon and I am going to put something new on the sign that it holds. I repainted my columns using a natural sea sponge and an airbrush for detailing, I was pretty happy with the way they turned out but think I may have made them too dark. I thought they were too light before, they might look pretty good once they are lit up at night.

Got some work done today.

Today I painted some tombstones, re-painted my fence columns, and gave my scarecrow a makeover. I think everything came out better than I expected it to and I am very happy with all of the work I got done. Well, everything except for my scarecrows new head... it's not exactly like I want it, but it's close. I used the airbrush a lot today and really had fun with that, it really made the columns and scarecrow look better than they would have otherwise. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon, when I tried earlier today, the up-loader didn't seem to want to work. Right now I'm headed back down to the garage to finish painting some tombstones.

I think I am going to start setting up some things tomorrow, it's a little earlier than I had planned, but I'm too excited... plus it will free up some room in the garage so I can work on some other stuff.
