Well, in my mind they are ghosts. Somebody posted this picture a while back, I can't remember who or where this picture was taken. It looks like it must have been at an amusement park from the roller coaster track in the background. I always thought this would make a good costume, so this year I bought some cheap drop cloths from Lowe's, and dyed them a slightly darker color to replicate the look of these props. I just used some black material under them, hoping it would appear we were kind of "floating" in low light. I also used some black, see through material inside the hood for that faceless look.

ReplyDeleteWe actually had on black baseball caps under there, it worked great for making the "hood" stand up and not flop down over our faces.

ReplyDeleteHi, to the makers of this excellent costume! We are trying to make these for this year. Is there anyway you can add some how to instructions? Maybe a step by step. I want mine to turn out as great as these!
ReplyDeleteI just bought some painting drop cloths at Lowes, and dyed them with Rit dye for the "cloaks". I used some old black robes and masks that we had from other costumes for the under layer, and used ball caps to make the hood look right. They were pretty easy to make.
ReplyDeleteI have the drop cloths already and ball caps of course, We found some black mask that are see through, we are going to use those for our face. My question is, how did you get the fabrics to lay the way they are laying. For example by your neck line, it looks as if it just lays over but mine is not laying the way yours looks. Did you cut it? How did you size the drop cloth to lay perfectly with the under layer? Sorry so many questions, I thought it looked quite easy as well then when I went to go do it, it caused me some trouble.
ReplyDeleteI used two different pieces for each costume. One is for the body, and has a hole just big enough for our heads to fit through, and the other is for the hood. Hope that helps.

ReplyDeleteIf I were doing it, I'd build a wooden frame and use chicken wire for the shape, possibly some paper mâché under there, somewhere.
